The Silliness of Sects
The word 'sect' is being thrown around recently with great fervor. It is usually
applied by members of one sect that are in opposition to the members of another
sect.
What is a 'sect'? How is the word 'sect1' defined?
-“a body of persons adhering to a particular religious faith; a religious
denomination”
or
-“a group regarded as heretical or as deviating from a generally accepted
religious tradition.”
or
-“(in the sociology of religion) a Christian denomination characterized by
insistence on strict qualifications for membership, as distinguished from the
more inclusive groups called churches.”
or
-“any group, party, or faction united by a specific doctrine or under a
doctrinal leader.”
Do you know of any, so called religion, that is competing for your mind and your
money, that would not fit into one of the above definitions?
Don't all religions require their sheep to 'adhere to a particular faith'?
Don't all religions regard members of other religions as deviates, or heretics?
Don't all organized religions have an accepted religious tradition?
Don't all organized religions deviate from some other religion's accepted
traditions?
Don't all religions insist on 'strict qualifications for membership', as in
'becoming a member of a church'?
Don't all organized religions have a specific doctrine?
Don't all organized religions have a doctrinal leader?
When one belongs to one organized religion all other religions become sects,
don't they?
In essence the word 'sect' is meaningless. It is 'all in the eyes of the
beholder.' It is one opinion against another opinion. It is a word that finds
its meaning in the context of a belief system. It is what you believe in
contrast to what i believe. And what you believe is opinion as is what i
believe. And the only thing factual about opinion is that it is not factual.
All of the organized religions, in their many putrid flavors, are sects. They
all have their shepherds and they all have their sheep. They are all mind-zoos,
but they are comfortable, require little maintenance, promise big rewards at
harvest time and all for the minimum donation of one's mind. For many people
that seems to be a small price to pay. And after all, what better to do than
visit the zoo, maybe on Sunday morning?
So the next time someone says to you 'did you know so and so belongs to a sect?'
You might just ask that someone; “...and what zoo do you visit, maybe on Sunday
morning?” And, please, try to do it without laughing. The residents of this zoo
don't like to be laughed at. Their reaction may be a violent one. This could be
physical violence if one makes this remark in a group of them. Or even worse, a
mental violence characterized by the defecation of their particular brand of
sect-ual, self-righteous on one. Sects are never silly to their members.
