Have you been thinking more of the past or the future?

Posted on Feb 3rd, 2009 by basho : JustParsingThrough basho
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 03, 2009:

the past creates the future.
try and think about  'future' without 'past'
thought is the past.

you go in circles.

living in the moment is not a thought process.
if you think you're living in the moment - you're not.
if you tell someone you live in the moment - you're not.

it's entertainment.

you may have moments of 'living in the moment' but it's not anything that is happening in the moment you are thinking about it. - it is memory being played back.

questions like this don't exist 'in the moment'  and are basically irrelavent. :)

I disagree :-)

so we must agree to disagree then — I take it you don’t read much Ecart Tolle but how do you feel about inspiration?  Do you think life is getting better or worse?

well, i don’t know what you are disagreeing with, specifically. so it is not possible to respond to your comment.

inspiration: the drawing of air into the lungs. do it all the time. :)

If by ‘life’, you mean society. well… what do u see?

Eckhart Tolle? No haven’t read him but i would wager he isn’t saying anything that hasn’t been said before. Maybe by Eckhart himself. It’s not in the reading and thinking. It’s in the doing and the doing takes place in the moment and one is not in the moment when one is thinking about it.

I see the world getting better-

About this moment.  This moment is all we have – it’s all we ever have.
time spent replaying the past or dreaming up things to occupy the mind
is time badly spent.

Great post.

I describe thoughts as photographs that we take with our mind to prove that we are in control…when of course we are not.

When we live in our thoughts we are continually auditioning for life.

so if ‘fear’ is the symptom, what is the root of the fear?
what is it, we are fearful of losing. carrey’s comments - thinking about someone that one dislikes - is a thought reaction, a defensive reaction, a reaction to fear?? fear of what? grants comments points to fear. fear of what?

’ photographs that we take with our mind to prove that we are in control…when of course we are not.’

what is it that must be in control? and why?

what is it we are afraid of losing? :)

There are many symptoms of fear, one of them is embarrassment…the fear of embarrassment naturally attempts to position us on the front foot of all our interactions, with our friends, work peers and even incredibly our own families. We feel like we need to have an answer, to look like we know what we are doing or know what we are talking about…when most of the time we’re just trying to fit in with the conversation and satisfy the peer relationship to maintain the status quo (everyone smiling at each other; nobody exposing their true self).

The most powerful statement in the world is “I don’t know”…to climb any mountain, we must always start at the bottom, instead we prefer to start on the tough slopes to try and fit in, we fall and try to start again without any  foundation. The foundation is truth, its found right at the bottom, with the words “I don’t know” and unless you’ve got it…you’re climb to the top wont reach any further than smilies and acceptance from your peers, which of course at the end of the day is worthless.

The photograph of ourself; our image to the rest of the world; our reputation.
